My practice is concerned with the relationship of systems within the natural world, the ideas of material as matter and matter as material. It spans sculpture objects, drawing, print and installation, usually on a significant scale, tracking the relationship of dust to ecologies to galaxies and back. My work talks to, and is about my body, its failings and resilience, and the connectiveness of it as part of emotional, familial and physical ecosystems beyond the idea of self. Since 2022 much of my research has involved employing fungi as an agent in the transformation of sculptural form. Through these collaborations I explore the interconnectedness of systems within nature, the entanglement of species, the human body and the natural cycle of life and death.
I create sculptural forms from sustainable papers, textiles and natural wax, which become the ground for colonisation. As the fungal networks grow, they draw out connections with lymphatic, nervous and vascular bodily systems. The sculptural forms are transitory and in a final act the sculptures are composted in order that they can decompose and complete the cycle. |
This last year I have been supported through spudWORKS LaunchPad scheme. My work continues to interrogate parallels between organic growth and the body. The very small and the stellar systems in which small things work and build. The relationship of the micro to the macro and our place within the ‘cosmic soup’ of the Universe.
Excitedly, an image I took of a fungal sculpture was selected as a finalist for the Royal Photographic Society’s Women Science Photographer of the Year 2023. In the same year I was the recipient of the AUB Post Graduate Award and in 2024 was awarded The John Purcell Paper Prize.
Jindra was awarded an MA in Fine Art with Distinction at Arts University Bournemouth in September 2023.
