Jindra Jehu is a multi-disciplinary artist. Her practice is concerned with the relationship of systems within the natural world and spans sculpture, drawing, print, film and living mycelial structures. Recent research has involved employing fungi as an agent for the transformation of sculptural form. Through these collaborations she explores the interconnectedness of systems in nature, the entanglement of species, the human body and the natural cycles of life and death.
Although instigating and tending to their spawn, the artist purposefully relinquishes creative control to the Saprotoph fungi. Sustainable papers, textiles and wax become the ground for colonisation. As the microbes, roots and fungal networks grow, they draw out connections with lymphatic, nervous and vascular bodily systems.
Based in Dorset but exhibited both nationally and internationally, Jindra’s outputs continue to interrogate parallels between organic growth and the body. Most recently, a fungal sculpture image was selected as a finalist for the Royal Photographic Society’s Women Science Photographer of the Year 2023 and was subsequently published in New Scientist.
Jindra was awarded an MA in Fine Art with Distinction at Arts University Bournemouth in September 2023.
